DESCRIPTION
Althaea (or marshmallow) is a perennial herbaceous plant with a long history due to its medicinal and nutritional functions.
-It is widespread in Europe and Western Asia and since ancient times, it has been used to treat dry cough, bronchitis, sore throat, catarrh, gastric ulcer, mucosal irritations of the mouth and to heal wounds.
-Althaea flowers are rich in phenolic acids and flavonoids.
-The decoction of althaea flower extract is considered to contribute, among others, to the improvement of blood circulation, and the treatment of constipation, but also inflammatory conditions.
-The anti-inflammatory effect of althaea extract is related to its immunostimulatory effect, which results in the activation of phagocytes to deal with inflammatory conditions.
-Quercetin is a natural powerful flavonoid found in althaea flowers and it is also found in several plant products.
-Quercetin is thought to reduce inflammation by reducing inflammatory factors in human cells (such as IL-6, TNF-α, etc.), but also regulating the transcriptional activity of NF-kB, the incorrect regulation and expression of which causes an inflammatory stress response, and by extension chronic inflammatory diseases.
